A Backyard Wedding in Morrison Ranch: The HOA Questions Nobody Asks Early Enough
The neighborhood is built for this. The association still has opinions.
The greenbelt behind your house is not your back yard
Morrison Ranch has more than 400 acres of greenbelt, and the lot line usually stops well before the pretty part. Those parks are common area governed by the association.
If your layout assumes the ceremony happens on the grass behind the fence, get that cleared in writing first. This is the single most common late surprise in this neighborhood, and it arrives about four weeks out when a rental company asks where the tent is going.
Tents, sound and end times
The association maintains the white rail fencing, the ash canopy and the general look of the place, and it enforces the rules that keep them that way. Tent placement, amplified sound and finish times all need confirming before you book rentals or a band.
Ask for the answers in writing, then give them to your caterer and your planner. A service timeline built around a real end time is a different document from one built around an assumed one.
Load-in past the rail fence
Wide parkways and mature landscaping make a beautiful street and a genuinely awkward load-in. There is rarely a place to put a truck, and the crew has to get equipment from wherever it parks to wherever the kitchen is going.
Walk this with your caterer beforehand. The good ones will come in one vehicle, stage out of sight, and never be visible to your guests.
Plan the light before the layout
That mature canopy is the reason to hold your reception here and the reason it will be dark by seven. Event lighting is not decoration in this neighborhood; it is the difference between dinner and a rumour of dinner.
Book the season, then the Saturday
October through April is when an outdoor evening in Gilbert is comfortable, and every good vendor knows it. Peak Saturdays go nine to twelve months out. A Friday or Sunday in season is easier to staff properly and usually cheaper on every line.
