Booking a Heritage District Space? Ask These Eight Questions First

The buildings photograph beautifully and hide their problems until load-in day.

Reception set up in a downtown Gilbert Heritage District space

About getting in

Where does a vendor load in, and how far is it to the room? Most Heritage District buildings have no dock. Sometimes the honest answer is a hundred feet of sidewalk on Gilbert Road.

What time can vendors access the space? Shared buildings often say an hour before, which quietly rules out anything requiring real setup.

About power and water

Is there a kitchen, a prep sink, or neither? Many rooms here have one sink. Workable — but only if the caterer knows in advance.

How many circuits are available, and what else is on them? Old buildings and modern cook lines do not always get along.

About the calendar

What is happening downtown that weekend? The Downtown Concert Series, the Gilbert Art Walk every other week from October through March, and Water Tower Plaza events all bring closures and crowds.

Where do guests park, and what will it cost them in time? Downtown parking fills fast on any weekend evening. Put the answer in the invitation.

The two nobody asks

What does this room sound like with sixty people in it? Brick, hard floors and high ceilings photograph well and are acoustically punishing. Visit during another event if you can.

What is the real end time, and who enforces it? Shared buildings and neighbouring residents mean the stated time is usually the actual one. Better to know before the band is booked.
